The Decimated Democrat party

2,865 posts in this topic

Slaughtered in 2010. Lost more in 2012. Once again in 2014, and no whitewashed in 2016
.

Read for years how the GOP was relegated to the dustbin of history yet the GOP now has what, 31 gov's, majority in both houses and the Presidency.

2018 doesn't look good for the Democrats either. Lots of Dems in the Senate up for re-election in states Trump won by 55% or more.

Will Bernie save it in 2020?

Is the future of the Dem party an 80 yr old Vermont Socialist?

What is the Democrat party? I think you mean the Democratic Party.

They would be the party with 18 governors, minorities in both houses and their leading candidate for 2020 will be an 80yr old Socialist.

call them whatever you want.

2020 will look a lot like 2008 when we elect a Democratic President and give him or her a super majority in Congress. Count on it.

If Trump bombs and/or there's a big recession, then I agree.

He's right tho, Klansbait, there is no such thing as a democrat party.  How do you expect anybody to respect the question or take it seriously when it's phrased in a pejorative (that the "Republic"party forced)?

You all know what he meant but just dont want to confront the truth of his message. The dems are fucked. We should be having an autopsy. Instead we like to pick on people's wording choices. No wonder we all failed to persuade enough people last week.

White House & Senate could easily turn D, Congress will be much more difficult with the gerrymandered districts and R's controlling a large majority of state houses.

Exactly. 2020 sweep ain't happening. We need another census or a ruling against gerrymandering before the house stops being baked in for the GOP

Again, nobody is denying that the party is a mess now, so no.

Which would mean 2022 at the earliest.

The immediate future of the Democratic party is a function of how successful Trump is. If
Trump succeeds and just makes progress the next 2 years 18 will be a disaster for the Democrats with all of the Senate seats they have to defend. If he does not do well they could make a few gains and set up well for 2020. clearly Democrats will  hope for failure and likely do whatever they can to make that happen

since 2010 Democrats have been taken to the woodshed at the state level, losing over 900 seats, only 5 states are now totally controlled by Democrats

last TUES was the political equivalent of the Battle of Midway

yes, we've discussed the effects of gerrymandering and voter suppression many times.

There has been plenty, and I mean plenty, of discussion on here and the old board about what the dems need to do going forward.

However, when it comes to any questions about trump and his policies, we got nothing. See the tax thread...not one republican has had a reply in regards to his tax plan.
